Serves adults who suffer from severe and persistent mental illness by assigning an individual case manager to determine service need and assist in accessing such services as housing, financial entitlements and medical care, as well as ongoing assessment of the client's ability to function in the community and linkage to other supportive community services.
PACT (Program for Assertive Community Treatment)
Provides intensive mental health interventions to adults who have frequent and/or lengthy history of psychiatric hospitalizations due to difficulty controlling symptoms of Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder and Bi-Polar Disorder, and who also have a history of severe difficulty tending to their basic needs while living in the community. Services are comprehensive in scope and are provided by a multi-disciplinary team on a 24-hour basis, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The primary goals of the PACT Program are psychiatric treatment and symptom reduction, support and rehabilitation.

Mental Health Support
To assist adults with long-term mental health needs to reside in community housing and function as independently as possible and to experience recovery from their mental illness. We provide flexible support services to consumers in a wide range of living settings to increase their functional level and promote community integration. The program is comprised of three primary services: supported living, supported residential housing, emergency housing program, and homeless mentally ill services. Supported living focuses on helping consumers secure and maintain housing of their choice by providing placement services; relocation assistance, in-home support services and independent living skills training. The supported residential program consists of six one bedroom apartments is Staunton and six in Waynesboro where individuals have the opportunity to receive a more intensive level of in-home support services. Our PATH (Program to Assist in the Transition from Homelessness) Program includes placement assistance and linkage to mainstream services for dislocated or homeless people. Our emergency housing program offers loans or grants, and other assistance to the mentally ill persons who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, as well as rental subsidy assistance and emergency food boxes.

Outpatient Mental Health
Provide outpatient mental health services including individual, group and family psychotherapy. Services available to aid individuals who are at least 18 years of age and experiencing life problems to become healthier and more functional .
Shenandoah Clubhouse
The Clubhouse provides support and opportunities to adults with severe and persistent mental illness to achieve and maintain stable functioning, reduce the need for hospitalization and reach a higher level of functioning. The Clubhouse model emphasizes strengthening the member’s ability to deal with everyday life experience rather than focusing on treating pathological conditions. In addition to social/recreational activities there are three service units available for participation.

Child & Family Services
Provide outpatient counseling services to children and families in a clinical office setting. Services include individual, family and group psychotherapy focused on at-risk and emotionally disturbed children, adolescents and their families. Outpatient Services also works closely with schools, other treatment providers, physicians, the courts and community agencies.
Child & Family Services offers a variety of substance abuse counseling options. Individual and family therapy is available for substance abusing youth and/or the child of substance abusers. A weekly Substance Abuse Awareness group meets on Thursdays for teenagers with SA problems. We also help facilitate inpatient substance abuse treatment for adolescents with more severe cases, and can provide outpatient follow-up care.
Psychiatric services are also available to children who are involved in other Child & Family programs.
Crisis Intervention & Access to Services
The Crisis Intervention Unit provides 24-hour intervention services for all individuals permanently or temporarily residing in Staunton, Waynesboro, Augusta and Highland County. Services include face-to-face or telephone crisis intervention, assessments to determine whether hospitalization is needed, and referrals to link appropriate service providers.
No appointment necessary to receive Crisis Intervention Services. A Crisis Clinician is available to speak with anyone seeking assistance.
Access Services provides orientation, intake and assessment services to mental health and substance abusing children, families and adults entering Clinical or Behavioral HealthCare Services at VCSB. Consumers receive both telephone and face-to-face interviews in a structured, multi-dimensional assessment process that results in them being matched with the most appropriate services available.

Deaf Services
Outpatient mental health services are offered to children, adolescents, and adults who are deaf, hard of hearing or deafblind and their families to aid them in becoming healthier and more functional through therapeutic interventions. Therapists are available who are knowledgeable about deafness, hearing loss, deafblindness and the implications for therapy. Therapists can communicate in American Sign Language. Counseling is provided in the client's preferred mode of communication. All contacts are confidential and services include: individual, couples, family and group therapy; psychiatric services; education in parenting techniques; treatment for survivors of sexual abuse; substance abuse treatment; crisis intervention services, case management and in-home services. Regional consultation and advocacy is available upon request.

Psychiatric Services
The psychiatric physicians and nursing staff function as an integral part of all the treatment teams at VCSB. The psychiatrists participate in initial client assignment, ongoing treatment planning, and when indicated, provide thorough psychiatric evaluations and medication management.
Psychiatric nursing services include coordination of psychiatric evaluations, assistance to clients in obtaining medication, laboratory monitoring and brief medical assessments of clients, and other psychiatric management issues.
